After completing almost 40 of the 1:35th scale ASLAV Type 1 models, GDLS – A ordered a 1:35th scale model of each type of ASLAV being delivered to the Australian Army.
The ITALERI LAV-25 MORTAR Carrier model was selected to modify into the four Type II Variants and the two Type III Variants.
The variants are Command, Surveillance, Ambulance and Personnel Carrier, which are built on the Type II body. The Recovery and Fitters vehicles are built on a Type III body. Much of the models were scratch built using Evergreen styrene and brass as well as the modification kit already produced by DMG for the ASLAV Type 1 models.
Recently additional models have been constructed of the proposed Phase IV currently under consideration for the Australian Army. This version involves removing the front end of the vehicle and building a new profile front section, additional external fuel tanks and other modifications.
Five models of the PC version of the ASLAV were returned to us for modification. Mods included fitting of the Remote Weapon Station and BAR Armour around the body. The armour was drawn up and this sent off to have photo-etched in brass sheet. These panels were then soldered together and glued to frames fitted to the body of the ASLAV. Four models have been modified with the last to be modified when designs are completed.
