In 2011 we were contacted by an old friend from the Navy who was now working with the South Australian Government. They had recently had a large model of the ASC Dockyard in Osborne, SA completed however the model did not come with models of the vessels being built there. He asked if we could supply him with a couple of models which could be added to their dockyard model to give it a bit more detail.
We were asked to supply a model of the AWD on the slipway and one sitting alongside the wharf. Also a COLLINS Class Submarine on the slipway and also one alongside. These were to be constructed to the scale of 1:1000. Not our usual sort of scale!
These were constructed from plastic and the hull and superstructure moulded for each one and detailed with plastic and fine brass pieces. Each model was painted with the side numbers of HOBART DDG-39 and BRISBANE DDG-41.
Whilst doing these were also asked to also construct some small aircraft models for another model they had of the area around RAAF ENDINBURGH. They required several very small AP-3C ORION aircraft and anything else we could think of that may be at a RAAF Base. We did several ORION models as well as a C-130J HERCULES and a C-17A GLOBEMASTER all in a scale of 1:2000. All of these were done by hand and scratch built from styrene plastic and brass and painted in their RAAF colours.
All of them came out great and we sent them off to our client to be glued to their models. The client thought they look fantastic and add a great deal of realism to the once bare architectural models.
