HMAS CONDAMINE

HMAS CONDAMINE, a Modified River Class Frigate (1947)

DMG was requested to construct two models, one of the Modified River Class Frigate, HMAS CONDAMINE (K698), the other the Bathurst Class Corvette, HMAS BENDIGO (J187). Both these ships hold a special place in the heart of our client, whose father had commanded both BENDIGO in 1943 during World War II and CONDAMINE in 1947.

It was decided to construct CONDAMINE in the scale of 1:72 and take advantage of the hull and fittings already available through APS Models. This scale also gave our client the best size for the model to fit in with his already substantial collection of memorabilia of his father’s career, with CONDAMINE having a length of just over 1400mm.

The hull was constructed of fibre-glass whilst the superstructure was built of Evergreen Styrene with timber, metal and cast resin fittings. The model was completed in her 1947 colour scheme of light grey superstructure and upper hull with a darker grey lower hull down to the boot topping. The model was mounted on keel blocks and mounted on a polished timber base with Perspex display case to keep her safe and dust free.

The model was constructed with the aid of several good reference books written by Vince Fazio, whose father had also served as the Coxswain of BENDIGO during our client’s father’s command in 1943. Click on one of the following images for a larger version.
