As part of “Project Protector” for the Royal New Zealand Navy, TENIX Maritime Defence is to construct four of their designed 55 metre In-Shore Patrol Vessels or IPV. DEFENCE MODELS AND GRAPHICS was commissioned to construct a 1:150 scale model of the IPV as part of a series of models of all three classes of vessels being built by TENIX.
The original vessel was put forward as TENIX‘s bid for the RAN’s Replacement Patrol Boat project which was subsequently won by AUSTAL Ships but the design suited the RNZN for its major fleet replacement. The design was only slightly modified with the addition of roll stabilisers and mast modifications.
The model was constructed from a fibre-glass hull moulded by APS Models and the superstructure was constructed from styrene plastics and polyurethane resin cast parts.
The model was completed in the RNZN colour scheme and fitted into a one piece acrylic display case supplied by CityWest Plastics of Sydney. As with the other models, an aluminium transport case was constructed by Samuelsons Cases to transport the models safely between meetings.
She will be used at official functions and displays along with the models of the Multi-Role Vessel and the 85m Off-Shore Patrol Vessel models also constructed by DMG for TENIX. Four more models have been completed in recent months, three more for display by TENIX and one for an avid collector in the US.
