Early in 2007 TENIX DEFENCE LAND DIVISION asked DMG to construct a model of the S600 Personnel Carrier for display at exhibitions and conferences. This lightly armoured 4 wheel drive vehicle has been chosen by several nations to equip army units as well as Police Forces and is well suited to these tasks. The model was to include opening side, rear and driver’s doors to show the interior as well as the MARS raised platform on the roof and the Barricade remover fitted to the front. It was constructed to a scale of 1:16.
The model was built from drawings and several photos that TENIX was able to supply us and constructed from Evergreen styrene and cast polyurethane parts. The tyres were obtained from a stockist of RC Model car parts and were the perfect size for this model, however new hubs where cast to suit.
All of the interior of the model was constructed on a platform that was, once finished, able to be placed inside the vehicle. The outside of the model was constructed, detailed and painted, then the interior fitted inside. Lastly the roof panel was fitted and then painted. The MARS roof platform and ramps was made detachable with four pins and the ramps can be fixed in any position. The barricade remover is also detachable with location rods running underneath the front of the chassis.
A foam lined, aluminium transit case was built by Samuelson’s Cases of Sydney to enable the model to be transported safely from the office to displays. Overall, this was a very pleasing model to build and our client was very happy with the result.
